Why dump this on Warwick?

Congratulations to Ken Wilkins, cartoonist for the Courier, who hit the nail right on the head echoing words I proclaimed in the Town Hall on Wednesday August 13.

Why is everything dumped in Warwick? Why are G&T sites not shared around the district?

Why was this Severn-Trent Water site not included in the original consultation, when you will recall both Newburgh Primary and the new dispensary practice of GPs, both said they were oversubscribed?

There are 17,000 visitors to Bowls England, 775,000 visitors to Warwick Castle, most of whom approach ‘Historic Warwick’ from the M40 along Stratford Road. Why in the year in which Warwick celebrates its 1,100th anniversary, with a Royal Visit from HRH the Prince of Wales, will the approach from the motorway be spoilt by the sight of a

Gypsy site?

Why not offer a 15-pitch site in Christchurch Gardens, Chandos Street car park, to rile the Lib Dems of Leamington? Why not the Common or the allotments or even Thickthorn roundabout to rile the Kenilworth mafia? Why not Acre Close or Dobson Lane in Whitnash to rile the Independents of Whitnash? Warwick is really angry about this proposal.

Why not Jewsons land on Old Warwick Road, currently empty? That would suffice for five years. Why not Stoneleigh Park, who’ve asked for 2,317 tents/caravans for events 10 times a year?

Why does everything have to be dumped in Warwick?

Just because we deal with most of the district’s sewage and the Cordon Sanitaire is reduced, will Gypsies and travellers want to spend overnights at this site? I think not. Eagle Burgman, Pure Office block, Riding for the Disabled, Gerberit (a Swiss headquarters) and West Midlands Ambulance Station will object to their investment being negated by Warwick district’s idiotic scheme.

I suggest that if investment is made on this site, rumour will bounce around the Gypsy community – don’t go to Warwick as you’ll be dumped next to the sewage works.
