Put our money into securing water supply

The supply of water to the general public and industry in England is becoming a serious problem and a major issue needing action now.

Water is undervalued and is being wasted by leaks and careless use. Drought conditions are becoming more common, and global warming, climate change, dryer summers and less rainfall create this need for positive action. So plan a major water supply from Scotland now.

The Government must wake up from their dreams of being the successful Victorians of the 21st century and ditch their flawed HS2 railway project now, which is too expensive and an unnecessary waste of taxpayers’ money. This finance should be used to upgrade the West Coast line existing railway networks more efficiently and for greater benefit to all the general public and not just for weathly businessmen!

If the Government wants to be remembered by future generations, now is the time to consider setting up a nationwide water main from Scotland to supply all of England, particularly the East, London and the South East. Wales and Scotland have adequate supplies. Millions of gallons (litres) of rainfall in Scotland are running to waste and out to the sea, so link us up to this vital commodity, benefiting us all. Let Government planners set to work now on this new water pipeline, a more worthy cause. - Richard G. Ferry, Rugby Road, Cubbington Woods.
