Pub proposal is over-development

Now that we have had the chance to see the proposals for the old Red House pub site, it’s plain to see that the new owners are envisioning over-development on a grand scale.

They have unveiled plans for two three-bed houses, two-and-a-half storeys high (three storeys in other words) in the pub garden, and for the conversion of the pub building itself into three, two-bed flats.

There is parking provision for between nine and 11 vehicles – all of which will be entering and leaving the development via a narrow driveway which currently leads to the garden area.

The impact on traffic will be significant, and very detrimental to a stretch of road which is already nose-to-tail at peak periods, and treated like a race track at other times as drivers accelerate to catch the Sydenham Drive traffic lights. Motorists and pedestrians alike will be at risk, with cars cutting across traffic in each direction, as they turn in and out of the access road.

Residents affected by the plans – including those from Leam Terrace, Radford Road and Eastnor Grove – met recently to discuss the issue, and were unanimous in their objections.

In short, the proposals represent massive over development, of a kind which will dwarf the existing Victorian terraces surrounding the site, robbing them of light and creating traffic problems which can never be reversed. - Andrew and Angela MacLeod, Radford Road, Leamington.
