Moral turpitude of a high order

At the time of the fire Bath Place Community Venture’s future was problematic due to the almost eliminated social services support, a severely loss making canteen and the competitive pricing of other crèche facilities. The fire paradoxically provided a brighter more settled future, through a good insurance settlement and the council’s obligation to honour the lease of the destroyed premises in some way or another.

Unfortunately BPCV was seduced by Warwickshire College’s agreement to the tenancy of their ‘white elephant’ the Old Library which had been empty and unloved for over five years. A disgraceful waste of a major Leamington asset.

Whilst the centre were unwise to enter into this arrangement it was purblind and opportunistic of the college to associate itself with a small social charity without the funding or management resources to undertake such a commitment; especially when they had a more sensible and practical way to achieve viability.

In all the circumstances for the college to give 28 days notice to the centre shows moral turpitude of a high order.

At least they should be a party to helping to re-establish this worthwhile social amenity. - Malcolm Horsman, via email.
