Hard work adds value to teaching

These tables provide a comprehensive analysis of a school’s performance using a number of measures including the ‘value added measure’. For secondary schools this measure shows the progress students have made from their starting point when they entered the school to the end of Key Stage 4. It compares students’ best eight GCSE or equivalent results to their KS2 SATs results, when they left primary school.

It is highly favoured by the education secretary Michael Gove, as he is concerned that by focusing on A*-C GCSE pass rates, schools are paying too much attention to a small percentage of students on the C/D borderline. The value added measure considers the progress of all students and by 2016 this best eight measure will be the key performance indicator for schools.

We are delighted that this year our value added score has again improved; it is the highest of all schools in the central area and puts us in the top four in Warwickshire, in fact, it ranks us in the top nine per cent of all schools nationally. We strongly believe that this is a testament to the hard work of staff and students at North Leamington School, being committed to our CORE values of Commitment, Opportunity, Respect and Excellence and striving to become a truly excellent school.
