Everything was right at parade

I have just read the letter by the unnamed correspondent who visited Warwick’s Remembrance Sunday parade. While I agree with the statement that the parade was greatly assisted by the stirring music played by Warwick Community Band, a number of inaccuracies need to be clarified.

The timing of the event was as near perfect as could be reasonable expected. The ‘Ode to the Fallen’ was pronounced as the church clock was striking 11. This was immediately followed by the Last Post played by a student of Warwick School, who stood alongside the war memorial. Two minutes silence, ended by the sounding of a maroon, was followed by the Kohima Epitaph. Reveille was again sounded. The church choir sang as the Lord Lieutenant led the wreath laying. The parade started at 11.20am not 10.20 as stated.

It was wonderful to see so many youth organisations taking part from the cadets to the scouts and affiliates. To my mind it shows the youth of Warwick care about Remembrance.

I have attended more than 20 Remembrance Day services in Warwick and can honestly say they do it right. A huge amount of planning goes into the event. The town clerk’s office is the centre of the organisation, they do a great job and do not deserve the criticism heaped on them by an unnamed critic.
