Cuts are the fault of the coalition

As one of the Crown Labour candidates in May, I am very happy to respond to Cllr Sarah Boad’s letter re Lillington Library (Postbag last week).

Cllr Boad knows full well that her attempts to restore three hours extra per week, when the library is actually having its hours cut by half, is fiddling around at the margins. Cllr Boad should feel lucky that the town council gave any money at all towards a service that the county council has a statutory duty to provide.

What she is really seeking to do is disguise the fact that the reduction in library hours comes as a direct result of her party in Parliament signing up to the Tory cuts package. In Lillington further effects of these cuts are evident - Lillington pensioners will lose up to £100 in their Winter Fuel Allowance, reduced policing levels in the area, the axing of most evening bus services and the ongoing doubts about the nature and scale of the services that will be available from Lillington Youth Centre. The difference between the amount of money she requested from the town council and the amount she received is a drop in the ocean compared with the Lib Dem endorsed cuts already implemented as outlined above and future ones planned in disability and housing benefits.

I think the people of Lillington do know who is letting them down. - Andy Marshall, Northumberland Road, Leamington.
