Council should be applauded

I have been reading in your paper over the last few weeks that some people consider it a ‘tragedy’ that the council has allowed camping in Victoria Park during the Women’s Bowls. I think if anyone has been to the park over the last week whilst the competition has been running they will agree the needs of the bowlers (which brings considerable economic boost to the town) and the needs of the regular park users have be married very well.

I use the park regularly as I often walk my dog there. The cars, caravans and camper vans that have been there all week have not impeded this at all. There has been a clear path marked for pedestrians around the normal walk area and there has been ample space in the middle of the park to run around and play. It is lovely to see the park being used and full every day. Those controlling the restricted area have been polite, efficient and ensured that pedestrian users have been given priority.

I hope that others will join me in congratulating Warwick District Council on running such a great event in the park.

This combined use of a public facility which maximises its benefit for us all should be applauded, not criticised! I for one look forward to the town welcoming the men when they follow the ladies next year.
