Are groups opposed to such licences?

Your letters pages last week contained some excellent letters from the chair of the Leamington Society, Bernard and Sally Davies, and the super one from Lucy Llewellyn regarding the granting of a Sex Entertainment Licence (SEL) to Shades.

Having had an opportunity to scrutinise the objections which were made to the regulatory committee and also having carefully checked the Courier over the past few weeks, one matter concerns me.

Nowhere in the objections does it seem to mention either the Old Town Business Association, the Mary Portas Team or Bath Place Community Venture having lodged any objections to the application for the SEL. I certainly stand to be corrected.

Are we to assume from this that those groups have no objections to such licences being granted in the Old Town area? Are we to assume also that their seeming lack of objection means that they welcome the granting of the SEL ?

I think we should be told. So do quite a few other people. - Name and address supplied.
