‘Noisy’ travellers move on - but more move in

Those who had set up the encampment were moved on by police on Wednesday morning, but not before residents living in Redland Road and its connecting streets had complained about groups of youths, belonging to the encampment, throwing stones and eggs at houses and ‘terrorising’ people.

But just hours after they moved on, complaints have been made about a group of travellers who have set up nearby on Fords field.

Residents in Redland Road said that on Sunday night going into the early hours of Monday morning they could hear loud music coming from the encampment.

One resident, who wanted to remain anonymous, said: “My elderly gran who regularly uses the G1 bus service won’t use it because all the teenagers and younger travellers are terrorising everyone with their disgusting language.

“When I take my son to nursery they were all standing at the bus stop climbing all over it punching and kicking and vandalising everything around it.

“Generally over all they are a complete nuisance and the sooner they are gone the better. If they could respect the locals and the community none of us would have an issue with them being there.”

Ward councillor Balvinder Gill (Lab, Leamington Brunswick) visited the site every other day it was there and said he had received “a lot” of complaints from residents and shopkeepers.

Cllr Gill said: “They do have a right to live somewhere but once we have permanent sites there will be conditions in place and the children can go to school where they can learn some manners.

“It is a relief they have been moved on but the site could be left in a mess.”
