May Day morn given noisy start

TWELVE hardy members of Harbury’s Hereburgh Morris side welcomed in the summer when they danced beside Chesterton Windmill last Tuesday.

The group began dancing in darkness at 5.30am and ended shortly after sunrise.

Secretary Avril Smolders, who would be happy for more people to join the group, said: “Hereburgh is the old name for Harbury and we have been dancing to mark the start of summer for the past 25 years.

“We used to dance on May Day mornings in the village itself but that proved a little noisy for some villagers.”
