Man pulled from burning car after Heathcote crash

Three people were rushed to major trauma units after a crash in Harbury Lane left one car on fire, and another on its side.

One man was dragged from a burning car by ambulance crews. He sustained a broken leg, suspected fractured pelvis, abdominal and chest injuries during the ordeal.

A woman in her 40s was also freed from the car by firefighters. She suffered extensive chest, abdominal and pelvic injuries and multiple lower limb fractures.

A third woman, believed to be in her 20s, was able to get out of the car while it was on fire, and was not thought to be badly hurt.

A man in his 20s was cut free from the car which had rolled onto its side, and treated for multiple rib and lower limb fractures, serious chest and abdominal injuries.

Two fire engines from Leamington and ambulance crews were called to the scene at Heathcote, at around 11.30pm on July 30.

A third engine was sent to help with the rescue once the extent of the emergency was realised.

Speaking about the man who was pulled from the burning car, a West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “One of the cars had caught fire. A man who had been dragged from it had a broken leg, a suspected fractured pelvis, abdominal and chest injuries.

“A splint was applied to his broken leg and he was immobilised with the use of a scoop stretcher and neck collar.

“Fluids were administered intravenously and a medicine that prevents and treats bleeding problems was given.

“He was sedated and taken on blue lights to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.”

All casualties were taken to the hospital for emergency treatment.

A spokesperson from Warwickshire Fire and Rescue said: “Fire fighters were in attendance for approximately two hours.

“Two casualties were released by fire crews, along with a third casualty who was not trapped and they were all in the care of the ambulance service.”

Police were also at the scene.
