Man arrested over woman’s knife injury in Leamington

A woman is believed to have been stabbed at a Caribbean takeaway in Leamington’s Old Town.

A man has been arrested in connection with the incident, which occurred at the Food of Passion shop in Tachbrook Street on Friday (January 17) at about 6.40pm.

Police were called by a member of the public who had come across the injured woman in the street.

The woman was taken to Warwick Hospital and later transferred to the University Hospital in Coventry where she underwent surgery to remove a knife blade from her lower torso. Her condition is not believed to be life threatening.

A 36 year-old-man was arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm. He was taken into custody in Leamington for questioning, and later released on bail.

Police community officers were making house-to-house enquiries in the street during the evening and cordoned off the area around the takeaway for a few hours.

The Dawn Till Dusk convenience shop next door had to close early, while Tim’s Chipper fish and chip shop, which also neighbours the Caribbean takeaway, remained open for business. Staff at both premises said that they had not witnessed the incident.

The Food of Passion was closed between Friday evening and Tuesday but has since reopened.
