Love and lights to be dedicated with Warwick carols

Carols in the Square will be held in Market Square this weekend (December 13) to set off messages of love which are now lighting up the town tree.

The annual service of dedication is put on each year to accompany the Lights of Love and remember the loved ones and family members named.

Led by town mayor, Mandy Littlejohn and Rotary Club fundraisers, the Sunday celebration hopes to draw in around 100 visitors eager to get behind the charity scheme.

A short carol service will be held at 4pm in the town centre, with accompaniment by Warwick Community Band and pupils from Newburgh School.

The service will be led by the mayor’s chaplain, with guest Jon Wassall this year’s president of the Rotary Club of Warwick.

Jackie Crampton from the Rotary group, said with crowds expected to support the carols, they just hope for good weather on the day.

She said: “The mayor is keen to have a good crowd as we have both the community band and the school choir supporting us.

“So far the tree has raised about £1,800, but I expect it to increase as the weeks go on.”

The Christmas tree, which was this year donated by Barns Close Nursery, is now covered with cards donated by people remembering loved ones.

It so far has over 160 messages and names and will stay up until January 6.

It is hoped to raise over £2,000 to be shared between the mayor’s charities and Myton Hospice in hope of supporting a host of charities across Warwick.

Names of those remembered on the tree are shown next to the tree, and also on the Rotary’s website where they can be viewed over Christmas.

Get your message lit up by completing the attached form and returning it to the Tourist Office, Claridges or the Post Office in Warwick.

Myton Hospices has a centre in Warwick and delivers care to patients across the district.
