Long delays caused by long car transporters

Motorists could see an end to traffic hold-ups and hazards by a busy junction caused by long car transporters delivering and picking up vehicles.

People who use Old Milverton Road in Leamington said the transporters cause tailbacks when parked near the junction with Rugby Road on their visits to the Drive Vauxhall sales and repairs centre.

The problem came to a head when at a recent “street surgery” residents complained to Lib Dem councillor Bill Gifford, who represents Milverton on Warwick District Council.

Terry Molloy, who lives off Milverton Road, said: “They park close to the Rugby Road junction and you are forced on to the other side of the road.

“You are putting your life in your hands and hoping nobody’s turning fast into Old Milverton Road. I’m amazed I haven’t seen any accidents .”

While one resident, who asked not to be named, said: “When the car transporters are there in the morning, it’s chaos. It can take 20 minutes to get past when it’s really bad.”

Richard Davison, general manager of Drive Vauxhall, said the car transport firms are not employed by the garage, saying the garage does not get notice of visits, adding: “I have told the management team that if they spot any transporters that they request they bring the transporters on to the site.

“We are happy to work with Cllr Gifford and residents to try and solve this problem.”

Cllr Gifford, also a member of Warwickshire County Council, said: “Some of the residents said there can be three deliveries a day and they never know what time of day it can happen.”

He has asked road users and residents to let him know if the problem continues.
