Lin sets her sight on more travel

A woman who taught the children of the children she taught at Warwick Children’s Centre and Nursery School has retired after 32 years.

When senior early years educator Lin Pilkington started at the centre in Coventry Road it was the only county council nursery in Warwick and around 100 children would be turned down at each intake.

But Lin, aged 61, who lives in Warwick, said with more places available now across the area, children are better prepared for primary school.

She said: “In the early days the learning was more formal but now it’s more play based – they’re learning but the children don’t realise that.”

Lin said she will miss the “enthusiasm and wide-eyed innocence” of the children and working with staff at the centre, which she said was “such a friendly place”.

Staff and children took part in a school farewell party, join-ed later by parents, and staff also organised a surprise party at the Wild Boar in Warwick.

Lin said she was so grateful for her gifts, including jewellery, perfume, a hand-painted plate with the school logo on and £200 in gardening vouchers from parents.

She plans more time gardening and walking and to travel more when husband Nigel retires in December.
