Leamington man imprisoned for armed robbery

A LEAMINGTON man has been sent to prison for the armed robbery of a taxi driver last year - all for less than £20.

Dennis Kumar, 22, of Tachbrook Street was sentenced to three and a half years in jail after appearing at Warwick Crown Court on Friday for the robbery of a taxi driver at knife point of £17.50.

He was also sentenced to one year for possession of a knife to run concurrently.

The robbery took place on November 11 after the taxi driver picked up Kumar from Leamington Railway Station and took him to Marston Close.

DC Ollie Deakin said: “Kumar was identified by local officers from CCTV footage and arrested at a later date as a result of some very good work by those involved in the investigation.

“When Kumar is eventually released from prison, he will be subject to Multi-Agency Offender Management under the Prolific & Priority Scheme to reduce the risk if re-offending.”
