A group of 24 regulars who attend Leamington instructor Vicki Parker’s classes will be powerhooping their way around the 5k course at Stoneleigh Park when they take part in the fundraising event for Women’s cancer charities.

Powerhooping is an all over body workout using a weighted hula hoop (between 3 and 5lb) that targets the core and trims the waist.

Vicki said: “It’s easier to keep the hoop up but harder to keep going and it does require some strength to do it.

“A couple of my members have already attempted to get around Victoria Park, they’ve only managed to get round once so far but I’m sure we’ll all do it on the day.”

The group will include Vicki’s eight-year-old daughter Lillie and one member who is over 60.

They will be joining millions of women across the UK in what is the largest national fundraising campaign of its type.

The Race for Life includes 5k and 10k runs, a 5k muddy obstacle course, half marathons, marathons and other fundraising activities which raise money for research into all 200 types of cancer.

Vicki said: “Both mf my parents have had cancer but thankfully they are OK now.

“Friends of mine have lost family members to the disease and it seems to affect everybody at some point in their life.

“We wanted to do the Race for Life but do something a little bit different for it.”
