Leamington crash update: Pedestrian escapes serious injury trying to help driver

The duo were fortunate to avoid suffering serious injuries in the incident in Dormer Place in Leamington, shortly before 4pm.

Paramedics arrived to find the Range Rover had left the road and hit a road sign and traffic lights.

It is understood that the driver lost control and while trying to help him, a woman in her 30s sustained hand injuries.

A man in his 20s then tried to stop the vehicle, but ended up trapped beneath the car.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival, crews were told the car had initially come to a stop before continuing along the road and colliding with a road traffic sign and traffic lights.

“A woman in her 30s suffered a hand injury whilst trying to assist the driver who appeared to be suffering a medical emergency.

“A man, believed to be in his 20s, then became trapped underneath the vehicle as he reportedly attempted to stop it.

“He was freed by the fire service and incredibly appears to have escaped uninjured.

He was immobilised by medics as a precaution and assessed by the doctor from the air ambulance before being transported to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire by land ambulance.

“The woman was able to make her own way to hospital.

“The driver of the car, a man in his 30s, did not suffer any injuries as a result of the road traffic collision, but was treated for a suspected medical condition and taken to Warwick Hospital by land ambulance.

“Whilst the efforts of the bystanders to assist the car driver are to be praised, we would always urge people to be mindful of their own safety.”
