K8 telephone box salvaged from old Ford foundry site

A RARE telephone box has been salvaged from the former Ford Foundry in Leamington by the developers who are building a new Morrisons supermarket on the site.

On Thursday contractors working on behalf of Trilogy removed the 1960s K8 phone box, which had been spotted by Warwick Society chairman James Mackay and member of the Twentieth Century Society during a site visit.

The K8 was designed by Bruce Martin in 1968 and represented a fairly radical change from the traditional red K6 phone box.

A future home for the K8 is yet to be decided.

Over the next two weeks consultants will be conducting an archaeological assessment of the site before remediation work begins
