Janet, who runs the 15th century Park Cottage bed and breakfast in West Street, was nominated for an Exceptional Service Award by former guest David Bennett, who suffered a heart attack three hours after arriving. Mr Bennett, his wife Jo, and his sister and brother-in-law were booked in for a stay last May.

But Mr Bennett, who is due to have a heart operation next week, collapsed in the street and was rushed to Warwick Hospital.

As he was then forced to remain in hospital for some time his wife decided she would have to return to their home in Essex and go back to work.

Janet, who runs the guest house with her husband Stuart, immediately kept the couple’s room free from other bookings and, when Mrs Bennett had to go home, took on the job of visiting Mr Bennett in hospital.

In his nomination to Trip Advisor, Mr Bennett - who had been booked in by another member of staff and never actually met Janet before he was taken ill - said: “The owner then proceeded to visit me in hospital and did my washing...even though we had never met. She also looked after my wife wonderfully. A true saint in our hour of need.”

Modest Janet said: “I’ve kept in touch with David and so I know he’s having a heart operation next week. He and his wife came back to visit us in September and are due to come and stay again later this year.”
