How would you make cuts?

Warwickshire people can now tackle the county’s funding shortfall themselves using an online budget simulator.

As part of ‘facing the challenge’, Warwickshire County Council is using YouChoose, an online web application that enables users to see how the council’s base budget is spent and suggest how money could be saved.

The authority has predicted that it will have to make up to £60 million of savings by 2014 due to the Government’s Comprehensive Spending review, of which £19 million will need to be made in the year from April 2011.

The software allows users to adjust the budget, showing the impact their decisions would have on services such as road maintenance and looking after the vulnerable.

The simulator will be accessible on the council website until Friday December 17. Responses will be summarised in a report which will be given to councillors before they make their final budget decisions in February.
