Gritters ready to hit Warwickshire’s roads this winter

Warwickshire County Council’s fleet of 29 gritting vehicles - and seven reserves - will ensure that 1,760 kilometres of county roads are kept clear over Christmas and into the New Year.

Primary routes and main roads will take priority, with smaller access points and streets being cleared when resources become available.

And following shortages of grit salt in following years, council officials have assured that reserves will be monitored to ensure work can continue throughout the winter.

Cllr Peter Butlin, portfolio holder for transport said: “Should the weather turn harsh over the coming weeks and months, we have a very hard working and capable highways team and fleet of gritters ready to take up the task of keeping the county’s roads clear.

“But motorists will still need to stay vigilant on icy and hazardous roads.”
