Girls’ walk for Pudsey made mum feel proud

A mother’s message to her daughter that ‘many people are worse off than her’ inspired the youngster and her friends to raise hundreds of pounds for Children in Need.

Madison Brown, of Coton End Primary school, was told about the plight of people in the Third World by her mother Yvette and said she wanted to do something to help.

So the five-year-old and her two school mates Martha Matthewson and Isobel Hirons and their friends Maya and Molly Sahota of Woodloes Primary School - all five - walked for four miles around St Nicholas Park in Warwick carrying backpacks filled with bags of sugar to emulate the type of regular water carrying trips children in Africa have to endure.

They have raised more than £500 for the cause and Yvette could not be more proud.

She said: “Madison had wanted a photo which had been taken at Warwick Castle for a Halloween event but it would have cost £12 which I said was too expensive.

“I told her there are people far worse off than her so she asked me how she could help them.

“I’m so proud of the girls and all the people who have supported them, their target was £150 and they have smashed that.”
