Get up, walk the dog, search for bombs

SNIFFING out guns and bombs in Afghanistan is a long way from working in a stables, but Southam girl Pte Kerry Edkins says her job is “wicked”.

The former Southam College pupil is serving a six-month tour in Afghanistan as a search dog handler, based at Camp Bastion in Helmand Province.

At any time she and her sniffer dog Oda can be called out to search for weapons and explosives anywhere in the province - but aspects of her life would be familiar to any dog lover at home.
