Gang threaten Kenilworth pub staff with machete

Armed robbers forced their way into a pub and threatened staff with a machete, before locking them up and driving off in a stolen car.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the armed robbery at the Green Man in Warwick Road after three men forced their way into the building at around 10am on Tuesday.

Armed with a crowbar, a machete and a knife, the men locked three members of staff in the cash room before stealing money from the safe.

They also took a set of keys before making their escape in a white Hyundai Veloster coupe which was parked outside.

The stolen car was discovered shortly afterwards in the Tile Hill area of Coventry.

Police have described the men as all being white and in their 20s.

They said all three were wearing black tracksuit type clothing, hoods and masks at the time of the robbery.

No-one was injured during the incident though the members of staff were “shaken” by the ordeal.

DC Tom Owen, who is leading the investigation is asking anyone with information or who saw any suspicious activity in Warwick Road at the time, to come forward.

The pub was closed for the rest of the morning while police investigated, but was reopened on Tuesday evening as normal.

A statement on the pub’s Facebook page apologised for the venue being closed on Tuesday afternoon.
