Friends unlawfully killed says inquest

UNLAWFUL killing was the verdict of an inquest held for two friends who were shot dead in Florida by a teenager on April 16 last year.

James Cooper, 25, a tennis coach in Kenilworth, was on holiday in Sarasota when he was shot dead with his friend James Kouzaris, of Northamptonshire, as they walked through a housing complex, on their way back from a night out, to their rented holiday flat.

At a Leamington Justice Centre inquest held today (Thursday), coroner Sean McGovern said: “They were shot by this young man in Florida so they were both unlawfully killed.

“I offer my condolences to both families.”

A jury at Sarasota County Court took just over two hours to find Shawn Tyson guilty of first degree murder following an eight-day trial last month.
