Former Whitnash policeman charged with child sex offences

Former Probationer of the Year, Christopher Cambray, has been has been charged with 11 child sex offences, including possessing and making indecent images, sexual activity with a child and paying for the sexual services of a child.

Mr Cambray, a police sergeant aged 42 of Shrewley, first appeared before Birmingham magistrates on April 28.

He is due to attend a plea and case management hearing at Birmingham Crown Court on August 20 when he will have an opportunity to enter a plea.

He was first arrested in December last year when officers searched his home.

He has been suspended from work pending the outcome of the court case and internal disciplinary proceedings.

Mr Cambray was voted out of 100 other students for his award when he was a community beat officer for Whitnash in 2002.

At the time Insp Paul Leddon said: “He is a credit to Leamington police station and it shows the high esteem in which he is held.”

Mr Cambary, who grew up and went to school in Whitnash, also said: “I think working in an area I know quite well has helped me.”

He was also stationed as a sergeant at the former Kenilworth police station.

A statement from Warwickshire Police said: “We can confirm that Christopher Cambray, aged 42, a Warwickshire Police sergeant, has been charged with 11 offences including paying for sexual services, making and possessing indecent images and sexual activity with a child.

“He first appeared in court on April 28 and will next appear in court on August 20.

“He has been suspended from work pending the outcome of the court case and internal disciplinary proceedings.”
