The music and literary celebration is now in its ninth year, with a new calendar slot and committee members working to gather support from across the town.

Running from September 3 to 7, the line up this year hopes to wow with an intimate performance at the castle by award-winning folk singer, Blair Dunlop.

The critically acclaimed singer, who will play at the Stables on Friday 4th September, is the son of former Fairport Convention member Ashley Hutchings.

Committee member, Lewis Smith said they were delighted to be confirming such big acts for this year’s event and with the castle on board, has high hopes for a special weekend.

“I’m delighted that we have been able to confirm this event at the castle,” he said.

“Blair is a brilliant live performer and the stables at Kenilworth Castle should be the perfect venue for a folk concert. It promises to be a night to remember.”

The three-day festival has been run as a not for profit organisation since 2007 incorporating live music, dancing, entertainers, as well as literary and art events.

The weekend this year will be once again rounded off with the popular Party in the Park at Abbey Fields with live stage, rides and stalls.

Other events confirmed for this year’s Kenilworth Festival include a piano recital by Samuele Rossini, a talk by writer Andrew Davies on the BBC’s upcoming War and Peace series, and the annual charity Phab barn dance.

Mascot, Kenny Bear will also make an appearance for children over the weekend.
