Film gives insight into extra care scheme in Rugby

The short film has been produced by Warwickshire County Council, in partnership with Housing and Care 21, and features residents from Webb Ellis Court.

Extra care housing is a popular choice among older people because it can provide an alternative to living in a care home.

It provides support services tailored to meet peoples needs.

Living within extra care schemes can help people to maintain and build up the skills needed to retain their independence.

Councillor Jose Compton, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Adult Social Care added: “This film is a great opportunity to see what extra care housing can offer. These schemes give older people greater independence and control of their lives through purpose built, self-contained apartments, each with its own front door. It is a very real alternative to living in a residential care home.”

Councillor Maggie O’Rourke, Warwickshire County Council’s Chair of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee for Adults, Health and Social Care, added: “Extra care housing is an extremely valuable housing service for older people. This film is great way to showcase the communal facilities, where people can socialise, or access other services if they want to. Altogether providing a great quality of life which everyone deserves in their later years.”
