Fatal road accident in Europa Way near Leamington

One man was killed and three other people were seriously injured in a crash near Leamington yesterday (Tuesday).

The man who died was in the front passenger seat of a black Honda Accord car that was in collision with a Ford Mondeo near the Greys Mallory roundabout in Europa Way shortly after 8pm.

The driver, a man, and two women in the back seat of the Accord were trapped and seriously injured in the crash.

One back seat passenger, a woman believed to be in her 20s, suffered a serious head injury and a fractured arm and leg. Ambulance crews quickly freed her from the car and started emergency treatment.

The other back seat passenger, a woman also believed to be in her 20s, sustained fractures to one leg.

The driver, a man in his 20s, sustained serious fractures to his arms and legs. Firefighters helped free him while ambulance crews worked to stabilise his injuries.

All three were taken to University Hospital, Coventry. One of the women is described as being in a critical condition.

The driver and sole occupant of the second car, a man in his 30s, received only minor injuries and did not require hospital treatment.

The accident involved the Accord and a DAF articulated lorry, which were both heading away from Leamington, and the Mondeo, which was travelling towards the town.

The road was closed until shortly before 3am today (Wednesday) while investigators worked at the scene.

Police would like to hear from anyone who was travelling in either direction along the A452 Europa Way, shortly before 8pm on Tuesday, who may have seen the black Honda Accord before the collision taking place, or anyone who witnessed the crash.
