Don’t give thieves a window (or door) of opportunity, warn police

AN OPPORTUNIST thief took advantage of an unlocked door at a Leamington home to steal a handbag.

The burglar stole the bag and bank cards inside it from a house in St George’s Road in the early hours of Thursday morning (January 26), making off with a number of other items.

Warwickshire Police are reminding householders that they should always make sure their doors are locked and windows secured even when they are in the house.

A spokeswoman said: “If you move from one downstairs room to another, or you go upstairs for a couple of minutes, you need to make sure you have not left either the front or back door unlocked, and that the patio door or French window is also securely locked.

“You should also close downstairs windows, even if they are too small for someone to climb through. A burglar can reach through and open a larger window allowing them access to your home.”
