Decorate your flag for Jubilee

CREATIVE souls can be a part of Leamington’s Jubilee and Olympic celebrations by flying their own home-crafted flag.

Leamington BID, which organised the successful lantern parade last year, is inviting adults and children to get involved in decorating up to 100 silk Diamond Jubilee-themed flags, which will go on to fly at a Jubilee tea party in the Pump Room Gardens on Sunday June 3 - and then be seen again along the Olympic torch route in the town on July 1.

The flags, which measure 1.5m long and 50cm wide, will provide a colourful centre piece at the 1950s-style party, which will involve live music and give people the chance to watch the ceremonial events taking place in London on a giant screen.

Those wishing to decorate a flag can attend a free workshop at the Grand Union Bar and Restaurant in Clemens Street on Bank Holiday Monday (May 7) from 12noon to 4pm.

Leamington artist Amelia Renfrew, who has designed the Jubilee poster artwork that will be displayed around the town, will be there to help participants come up with ideas and designs.
