Decision due on future of Leamington community centre site

A DECISION on whether to demolish a former community centre in Leamington’s Old Town and replace it with new housing is expected to be made tomorrow (Wednesday).

Warwick District Council officials have recommended that councillors on the council’s executive committee approve a proposal to replace the Kingsway Community Centre, which has been out of use for almost three years, with ten low-cost homes and a ‘community hub’.

But the plans have angered several people who live in the area, who have formed the Kingsway Community Centre Re-instatement Committee in attempt to save the building and bring it back to its former use.

The council says it will cost more than £200,000 to bring the building back to a standard that is fit for purpose.

Councillors on the executive committee are due to discuss the matter at a meeting at Leamington town hall tomorrow at 6pm.
