Dancing and food make for a merry wassailling tour at Warwickshire village

AN air of festivity drove away evil spirits from Long Itchington on Saturday as morris dancers held their annual ‘wassail’ tour around the village.

The Warwick-based Plum Jerkum morris side were joined by the Bradshaw Mummers - all the way from Yorkshire, as well as the Coventry Mummers and Alvechurch Mummers, at the Duck on the Pond pub, where they performed their traditional wassail to promote a good harvest for the coming year.

The dancers then moved on to the Harvester and then the Green Man pub, where they celebrated the tour with food and more music and dancing.

The Plum Jerkum side, who perform the Border Morris style, also held a toast to their founder member Max Smith, who died last year. He had started the side 25 years ago.
