Shameless thieves stole £2,450 worth of equipment from the old Rugby Free Secondary School site on Anderson Avenue at some point over the weekend.

Police believe the burglars got onto the site by climbing the metal gates - they then got into the school by damaging one of the rear doors.

The burglary happened at some point between 4.30pm on Friday February 21 and 3.10pm on Saturday, February 22.

The burglary came days before the school's new site opened to pupils this morning, February 24.

Brenda Mullen, CEO of the Learning Today Leading Tomorrow trust which runs the school, said: "We are disappointed that the last remaining items that remained in our temporary site were stolen on Friday night.

"This included music keyboards and site tools but the majority of our equipment had already been moved to the new building which we are delighted to be in from Monday 24 February.

"We will not let this unfortunate incident dampen our spirits at this exciting time and as all stolen items will be replaced, it will not affect our students who will benefit from the amazing resources in the new building."

Police said no description of the offenders is available at present.

They are asking any one with information to call 101 quoting incident number 260 22/02/2020.
