At Warwick Crown Court last week, Callum Taylor, 20, of no fixed abode was jailed for 14 months and banned from driving for three-and-a-half years.

Officers were on patrol in Rugby when they tried to stop Taylor’s Peugeot in Hollowell Way. The vehicle sped off travelling through red lights, driving on the wrong side of the road and hitting speeds of 80mph in residential areas.

The pursuit lasted 10 minutes before Taylor abandoned the car and fled on foot. He was eventually detained in Ennerdale.

PC Chris Batchelder from Rugby Patrol said: “Despite some close misses, fortunately, nobody was injured in this pursuit. I hope the fact Taylor received a prison sentence sends a clear message that if you put other road users and the public in danger you will be punished.”
