Couple’s life-long love

LOVE was in the air at a Cubbington care home this week when a couple who will celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary this year enjoyed a special Valentine’s Day meal.

Jacob and Erna Mychajlyszyn have lived at Cubbington Mill for the last two years and will mark their 60 years of marriage in October.

Erna, 81, who was born in Austria and Jacob, 86, from Ukraine, met at their friends’ wedding.

Jacob had worked on a large cattle farm in Nottingham before taking employment at Courtaulds plc in where he was later promoted to foreman and remained until he retired in 1991.

Erna arrived in England in 1951 where she was employed as a factory worker in Oldham, Lancashire before she moved to Coventry - first working for the General Electric Company and then at Courtaulds.

The couple married in 1953, having enjoyed a whirlwind romance, and their love remains as strong as ever.

They have two daughters, Angela and Irene.
