Community disco will reopen thanks to determined Donna

ADULTS with learning difficulties will get on the dance floor again next week thanks to the efforts of a Leamington care worker.

For the last 11 years Donna Farrely has organised a not for profit Community Night Club event for 250 people at Evolve nightclub on the second Wednesday of every month.

But three months ago the ownership of the club changed hands and Miss Farrely has since tried in vain to ensure the event could continue at the venue.

She said: “On the bus to work people would come up to me and ask when it is coming back because it means so much to them.

“They just wanted a a proper club night where there was lights and music and somewhere where they could feel safe.

“I’m so desperate for it to work out because they just love it.”

Donna’s determination to find a new venue grew when she received a “heart wrenching” letter from one of her clients asking her to bring the event back.

St Patrick’s Irish Club was sympathetic to her cause and has agreed to provide its hall for the event, which will take place on Wednesday from 6.30pm.

Kevin Murphy, the owner of Murphy’s Bar, has offered his services as a DJ for free.

The event will be held in the next two months as a trial to determine if the venue is suitable for the number of people expected to attend.

Miss Farrely said: “I’m hoping we can carry it on, the proof in the pudding will be on Wednesday.

“It’s amazing to think I set this up 11 years ago and it’s still so popular now.

“I just love to see the guests having a good time

“It can be stressful to organise but it is all worth the effort when it goes well.”

Miss Farrely is still trying to bring the event back to Evolve and is also open to offers from other venues who can hold the disco.

The event is open for everyone aged 18 and upwards and runs for three hours.
