Codemasters at Southam

Staff from games programmer Codemasters used a driving seat, steering wheel and pedals and giant monitor to demonstrate their game F1 to pupils at the St James Road school, as well as speaking to pupils about how they develop games.

Children then went on to use computer software to design their own track for racing and wrote descriptions of what it’s like to be a Formula One driver for their ‘around the world’ topic.

Deputy headteacher Dave Cousens said: “We look for opportunities for children to put themsleves as close as possible to the real action and playing games is a great way of doing that.”

Year five pupil Eric said: “It was absolutely thrilling; it made my heart beat that little bit faster.”

Jack, also in year five, said: “I was determined to win.”

And year six pupil Rachael added: “It was brilliant racing along that life-like track, that is until I crashed.”
