Anti HS2 campaigners to stage 40-mile protest walk

HIGH speed rail protesters will walk 40 miles along land expected to be built on under current proposals on Sunday April 17.

The Keep Burton Green HS2 Action Group is taking part in the event to highlight parts of the Coventry Way, a circular route around the city, set to be built on by the HS2 London to Birmingham line.

Part of the walkway under threat includes the Kenilworth Greenway, running adjacent to Burton Green.

Around 22 other major national walking routes, plus 200 footpaths will be affected or destroyed if phase one of the route is built.

Deirdre Vernon, of Burton Green’s action group, said: “I recently became aware of the many walks that will be destroyed by the proposed high speed rail so believe highlighting this is very important.”

Next month’s challenge starts and finishes at the marquee behind the Queen’s Head Hotel in Meriden. Entrants must begin walking by 10am and finish by 9pm.

Cost of entry is £12 per individual and £24 per relay team. This payment includes a map, description of the route and donation to the action group.
