A walk to Leamington for injured soldiers

Tracey Cownden, who works as an engineer for the firm, organised the fundraising event as part of Walking With The Wounded’s Walk Home For Christmas campaign, asking people to wear a Santa hat and walk any distance in aid of the charity.

She and 27 colleagues gave up an afternoon of work to walk from the Heritage Motor Museum in Gaydon, the site of Jaguar Land Rover’s headquarters, to the Star and Garter pub in Warwick Street, Leamington.

Tracey said: “I volunteered to help at the Invictus Games and it was completely inspiring. Walking With The Wounded is a wonderful charity. My colleagues and I are very excited about this walk. We feel it is the least we can do to support the soldiers to help them to re-build their lives.”

Speaking afterwards, she said: “The afternoon went very well. The weather was wonderful - clear blue skies and the sun shone.

“We had loads of interest on the route from the public to - plenty of cars hooting and people enquiring.”

Walking With The Wounded raises funds to retrain and re-skill servicemen and women who have been injured and support them in finding new careers outside the military. To find out more about the charity, visit walkingwiththewounded.org.uk
