Another plan for new homes would see almost 5,000 houses form a ‘garden village’ on land to the south of Warwick and Leamington.

The Commercial Estates Group (CEG) and the Bird Group want to create the 700-acre settlement on land in Lighthorne Heath which is bounded by the M40, B4451 and B4100.

Views are now being sought on the plans, which as well as housing, include shops, schools and a country park.

Richard Burke from CEG said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to deliver a vibrant new community. It will have its own distinctive local identity founded on the urban design principles of the garden village concept.

“We can create three unique neighbourhoods offering high quality lifestyles. Through good planning, walkable neighbourhoods and green travel planning, we will promote a healthy village.”

Tony Bird, chairman of the Bird Group, said: “The village is already an established employment hub location, home to Jaguar Land Rover and Aston Martin. We are proposing a further 50 acres of employment land to enable residents to live and work in the same location.

“The delivery of high quality and high tech employment in this location will provide exciting job opportunities.”

Conservative Stratford District councillor Alan Scorer, whose Kineton ward includes the proposed site, said: “I can see good and bad in this proposal. If it were to go ahead, having one new settlement would protect our villages from further development. But it won’t help the people of Gaydon, Lighthorne Heath and Lighthorne and I respect their views as well.

“If we are going to do it, we have to do it right and that’s the whole point of the public consulation.”
