Brian Holt reports healthy sales rise in July

Property sales in Leamington rose by two thirds in July for estate agency Brian Holt compared with the same period last year, with both exchanges and new instructions rising by 25 per cent.

The picture is equally positive in Kenilworth, with its branch there seeing sales increase by a third, valuations rise by 19 per cent and a small 5 per cent increase in people expressing interest in buying by adding their names to the mailing list.

The release of the latest monthly figures follows two national reports last week from the Nationwide Building Society and the Bank of England showing house prices across the UK rose by 0.2 per cent in July and that there has been a slight rise in the number of people taking on new mortgages.

Brian Holt’s Leamington manager Jane Canning said: “Some of the increased activity in July can be explained by the fact that many people want to compete their move in time for the school holidays so they are settled in in plenty of time for the new term in September.

“The fact that there has been a healthy rise since last summer underlines increased confidence in the market.

“August is likely to be quieter as is traditional regardless of what’s happening in the market and we expect to see a surge of activity in the autumn, in line with typical house buying trends.”

Leamington’s Brian Holt manager Jane Canning says property sales increased by 67% in July compared with the same month last year.
