She said: “A number of high street banks and lenders have recently announced products offering lower rates to homeowners making now a great time to review your current mortgage arrangements.

“In the light of historically low interest rates, remortgaging has become increasingly popular with borrowers looking to reduce the cost of their mortgage.”

Indeed, one in six of the mortgages that Connells arranged for customers in the first half of 2012 were for those remortgaging from their current deal.

As rates continue to fall, Beth expects to see even higher demand from those looking to improve upon their current mortgage arrangements.

She added: “Now is a great time for anyone with a mortgage, especially those who are coming to the end of a fixed rate, to book an appointment with a mortgage adviser and see if there are more cost effective products out there.

“With many lenders reducing rates on products, savvy homeowners will be looking to take advantage while these rates are still available.”
