All year 11 pupils at a Lutterworth school told to stay at home after pupil tests positive for Covid-19

The Lutterworth College Year 11 pupil, thought to be aged 15 or 16, is now self-isolating at home.

All Year 11 students at the Bitteswell Road school, which has almost 1,500 youngsters, are now being told to stay away and go into quarantine.

Nick Summers, the headteacher at the Bitteswell Road school, has written a letter to the parents and carers of Year 11 students after the child’s positive test emerged at the weekend.

He wrote on Sunday October 11: “We have been made aware today that we have a confirmed positive case of coronavirus (Covid-19) within Year 11 at Lutterworth College.

“We have followed the national guidance and have identified that students in Year 11 at Lutterworth College must now stay at home and self-isolate until Wednesday 21st October 2020.

“We will work through the direct contacts of the confirmed positive case as quickly as we can and alert those students who no longer need to self-isolate and who can return to their normal activities.

“If your child is well at the end of the period of self-isolation, then they can return to usual activities.

“Other members of your household can continue normal activities provided your child does not develop symptoms within the self-isolation period.”

Nick said that “Lutterworth College remains open and operational for all other students”.

“Like most schools, we are expecting to continue to have some confirmed cases of Covid-19 and that students, and in some cases staff, will have to self-isolate as a result.

“We will continue to enforce our preventative measures and manage the safety and wellbeing of our students in the best possible way, as well as ensuring we provide them with high quality online learning.

“Our priority, as always, is to keep everyone safe.

“We continue to ensure that students wear masks in communal areas and corridors and also recommend that they do so in lessons.

“We also continue to ensure strict adherence to our one-way systems across the school site and in our buildings, year group bubbles, sanitising on entry and exit to classrooms and ensuring that equipment is not shared,” he said.

“We continue to stay positive and encourage everyone to carry on enjoying school.

“So many students across year groups have commented how lovely it is to be back in school and working.

“Our aim is to take each day at a time, keeping everyone safe and carrying on teaching and learning as our main priorities.

“Remote learning for Year 11 will be set by teachers through the Show My Homework platform and it is important that all students complete set work diligently and fully.

“We’ll be emailing them directly to let them know how to get in touch with College staff for any help or support they might need.”
