As cases in Rugby Borough continue to fall, prompting hopes of a move away from strict Tier 3 measures in the coming days, Rugby council is setting up a meeting to prime businesses for the possible changes.

Rugby Borough Council is inviting pubs, restaurants, cafes and other businesses operating in the hospitality industry to join a seminar aimed at updating them on Tier 3 and Tier 2 regulations.

The seminar, which will be held online on Friday December 11 at 2pm, comes ahead of an expected government review of Rugby’s Covid-19 Tier next week.

It will be hosted by Rugby council and will include representatives from Rugby Police, Rugby First, and Rugby Borough Council’s licensing, commercial regulation and economic development teams.

Participants will be given the latest information on the Tier restrictions, dates when these will be reviewed, and possible scenarios for remaining in Tier 3 or moving to Tier 2.

They will be given guidance on how to manage numbers and household groups and comply with other measures, enforcement of the restrictions, and roles and responsibilities over the Christmas period.

Cllr Jill Simpson-Vince, Rugby Borough Council portfolio holder for growth and investment, said: “We know that the current Tier 3 restrictions have hit Rugby’s pubs, clubs and restaurants hard. With confirmed cases of Covid-19 substantially reduced we would encourage the industry to prepare in case the government move Rugby to Tier 2.

“We could find ourselves moved to a different tier at only a few days notice and in one of the most important trading periods in the year. We want to do everything we can to help businesses prepare.”
