New chef Andrew plans fine dining at Newbold Comyn

A former chef at Warwick Castle has crossed the moat and taken up residence as the new head chef at the Newbold Comyn Arms in Leamington.

Andrew McNamara, 28, who has worked for the National Herb Centre, the De Montfort Hotel in Kenilworth and the Merlin Entertainments Group at Warwick Castle, is hoping his corporate background will kick start a fresh chapter for the popular Leamington pub and events venue on Newbold Comyn.

The Scottish-born chef says he has major plans to take the pub to the next stage of its own gastro evolution.

He said: “I want to introduce fine dining to an already fabulous seasonal menu.

“I enjoy cooking with big flavours, including Asian spices and classic French dishes, infusing it all together with an English twist. I’m not inventing anything new, but I like to be refined with my dishes. If any detail is there, it must add flavour. I’m hoping within the next year or two we will be competing with the top restaurants in Leamington.”

Owner Sarah Miller, who fully restored the historic pub three years ago, said: “The Newbold Comyn Arms works hard to promote fresh food and produce, along with no food wastage. This is something Andrew is also passionate about and it’s great having such a keen and passionate chef on board.”
