Wilde’s passionate tale comes to Leamington this week

Heartbreak’s celebrated production of Oscar Wilde’s An Ideal Husband will be performed at Spencer Yard in Leamington’s Cultural Quarter on Thursday at 7.30pm.

Heaving with passion and political intrigue, Wilde’s extraordinary play still packs a punch for today’s audiences.

Sir Robert Chiltern is in big trouble – scandal is poised to ruin his life. His friend Goring leads a life of lounging, flirting and avoiding his father’s instance that he should marry. 

But both gentlemen’s lives are about to be turned upside down by the arrival of the devilish Mrs Cheveley ‐ and she has blackmail in mind.

Chiltern could lose everything including his wife. As accusations and slander flourish, these glittering characters struggle to face up to their predicament.

And, the audience discovers that a man thought to be perfect is flawed and that a man with flaws must rise to the challenge and do the right thing. 

But will any of them discover what makes an ideal husband?

“We are extremely grateful to the venues involved for their patience and understanding, the brilliant cast who wanted to get behind this wonderful opportunity and all the company, production crew and teams who have supported the endeavour. We’re really delighted that we can showcase it in our hometown.”
