Warwickshire barn hosts artistic trio

RURAL Warwickshire art gallery the Art Barn is preparing to re-open for the autumn season with a new exhibition featuring the work of three artists.

A member of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, Graham Blaine is displaying a selection of his watercolour paintings at the gallery in Preston Bagot.

Having specialised in silversmithing at school, he studied industrial design at Birmingham College of Art, before taking on work in the field of product design and as a development engineer.

Since retiring 12 years ago, Graham has devoted more time to his painting and takes silversmithing classes at Birmingham City University.

He mostly paints from sketches he makes ‘on the spot’ in the open air, which he then works on to create watercolour paintings in his studio. Graham sometimes also uses photographs to support his initial sketches.

Exhibiting alongside him at the Art Barn will be his son, Ian, who creates works in stained glass, while also on display will be stone carvings by Nicholas Bragg.

The exhibition runs at the Art Barn at the Old Rectory in Preston Bagot from Saturday, September 8 to Sunday, September 16. It will be open every day from 10am to 6pm. Entry is free. For further details, call 843023 or go online.
